History
Winona Seniors Co-op appeals to older adults who seek a multicultural,
multi-ethnic community.
The congregation of Beth Sholom Synagogue built our Co-op with the goal of providing affordable housing for low-income seniors from the Jewish community.
On April 7th. 1981, the Co-op was incorporated under the Co-operative Corporations Act as Cedarvale Housing Co-operative Inc. In September 1981, Beth Sholom Synagogue handed ownership over to the members of Cedarvale Housing Co-operative. Members then voted to rename our Co-op and it was then re-incorporated under Winona Housing Co-operative Inc.
For many years membership in the Co-op was restricted to seniors aged sixty-five and over. However, as time went on, this age restriction was lowered to fifty years.
Winona Housing Co-op continues to appeal to older adults who seek a multicultural, multi-ethnic community where all members are required to participate in the running of the building.
